An X icon on the search box would be great! It is a very quick way to clear results instead of having to press the delete key, which is most likely more far away than a mouse click. :)

Also, when clearing the search results it'd be great if the user would just go back to the homepage or clear the screen, as sometimes one relates the search results mistakenly with whatever is in the search box.
